RoHS
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the RoHS directive?
- The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive will ban the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants from 1 July 2006.
- How does the RoHS affect Partex products?
- The RoHS directive applies to electrical and electronic products and not components and accessories. However, in order to manufacture a compliant product, that product must not contain non-compliant parts. Partex are ensuring the compliance of all their products, to aid our customers who use them in the manufacture of electrical equipment for the EU market.
- Who is responsible for complying with RoHS?
- The directive states that the producer is responsible for compliance. The "producer" is
defined as:
"Producer" means any person who, irrespective of the selling technique used, including by means of distance communication according to Directive 97/7/EC...- manufactures and sells electrical and electronic equipment under his own brand
- resells under his own brand equipment produced by other suppliers, a reseller not being regarded as the "producer" if the brand of the producer appears on the equipment ... or
- imports or exports electrical and electronic equipment on a professional basis into a Member State
