Waste Electrial & Electronic Equipment

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the WEEE directive?
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive is an EC directive which aims to reduce the impact of waste electrical and electronic goods on the environment by, ultimately, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill sites. The directive aims to increase re-use and recycling of electrical equipment. To achieve these goals, the directive makes producers of electrical equipment responsible for financing the collection, treatment and recycling of WEEE, and by obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.
Who is responsible for complying with WEEE?
If you manufacture, import or re-brand Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) and place it on the UK market, then you have responsibilities as a 'producer' according to the WEEE directive. Producers must join a Producer Compliance Scheme and provide their producer registration number to anyone who distributes or sells their equipment. If you provide new EEE directly to household users/consumers you will be a distributor, and must provide facilities to your customers to return old equipment free of charge.
How does the WEEE affect Partex products?
The Partex products affected by the WEEE regulations are our In-House Marking Machines and Electric Heat Gun for heatshrink tubing. As an environmentally responsible supplier however, we offer our customers the option of returning any product or packaging, at their expense, for Partex to dispose of.
